About us

RSF Resources for Journalists is an international platform designed to provide journalists with practical, accessible, and reliable resources to help them improve their physical, digital, and psychological safety, better protect their sources, and deepen their understanding of professional and legal standards in journalism.

Launched in March 2021, this website has become a core element of RSF’s global strategy to support independent journalism in times of crisis and under authoritarian regimes around the world.

An international reach

Originally intended for journalists working in mainland China and Hong Kong, the platform has steadily expanded its audience and services. It currently features original content in English, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Ukrainian, Arabic and Spanish. The platform is also developing external resources offered in several other languages.

The website hosts over 150 articles and resources across key thematic categories: digital safety, physical safety, mental health, legal advice, and open-source intelligence (OSINT). It includes the RSF Safety Guide for Journalists, which offers practical advice to reporters going to high-risk areas. Beyond original RSF content, the website also offers recommendations with external resources from trusted international partners.

A practical tool for journalists in the field

Regularly updated, the platform now features videos, quizzes, and printable resources tailored to hands-on needs of reporters. New content increasingly addresses emerging threats such as cybersecurity laws, surveillance, and censorship. RSF Resources for Journalists attracts over 4,500 monthly users, more than 120,000 since launch, with high readership in Taiwan, the United States, Hong Kong, and Ukraine. Its structure is evolving to offer regional and thematic access points, and expanded multimedia content.

Ultimately, the platform aims to become a global reference point for journalists seeking practical tools, safety resources, and professional development opportunities, wherever they are and whatever challenges they face.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an international non-profit organisation whose mandate is to defend the right to free and reliable information across the world. Recognised as one of the main NGOs supporting journalists globally, RSF has conducted numerous capacity-building training programmes in the world over the past 40 years, including customised training curriculums to protect journalists under threats or hone their professional skills.
